*CHILDCARE FEATURED IN LA TIMES HOME SECTION (DEC. 8TH/10TH, 2011) *PLEASE VIEW MY NANNY PROFILE TO SEE 8 OTHER 5-STAR REVIEWS THAT ALSO PERTAIN TO MY BABYSITTING EXPERIENCE. I am a USC graduate and career nanny from Hawaii who adores babies, has studied child development and psychology, and has cared for and helped to raise children from infancy. I have a great deal of experience with children of all ages, serving as everything from a full or part-time nanny to an occasional/date night/one-time sitter. I’ve traveled with families, stayed overnight at the families’ homes while the parents were away, nannied full-time out of my home (including keeping them overnight), been a night nanny for newborns/infants, have experience with mutiples, and have watched up to 6 children. I also have experience with high-profile families. Children have always been my passion in life. Caring for them makes me happier than anything else Read more in the world and I just feel very lucky to be able to make a living doing something I truly love. I have a warm, patient, calm and nurturing spirit, but at the same time, am upbeat and friendly. I am very tidy, organized, responsible and cautious, but at the same time, very enthusiastic and fun-loving (health and hygiene are of the utmost importance to me, but I believe in exploration and experience as well.) I also feel that eager attentiveness and a constant enthusiasm towards children are so important. I love to constantly show them that they are loved and that the things they do are recognized. I really believe in a lot of positive feedback, even regarding the smallest accomplishment they might do, and I incorporate both learning and fun into everyday activities. I will respect any rules or guidelines you have for raising your child. I realize how hard it is when other people watch your children and don’t follow your rules, discipline or beliefs. When I care for a child, I would naturally care for them as if they were my own, but I think it’s always important to reinforce the bond with their parent while I am caring for them, whether it be doing activities that remind them of their parents, teaching and encouraging them to love and obey them, or just simply making them feel excited to share their day with the parent when they come home. My past duties have included providing daily transportation to school, lessons, activities, practices and outings, providing and preparing meals, monitoring the children's health and hygiene (trimming nails and hair, baths, dispensing medicine, etc.), basic newborn/infant/toddler care (feedings, meals, naps, changing, cleaning supplies), stimulation, supervision, interactive/imaginary play, assisting in development (movement, crawling, walking, eating, teething, sleeping, coordination, sensory exploration, speaking skills), tutoring with homework, potty-training, encouraging reading, art, music and outdoor activities, supervising playground and pool time, caring for the children while they were sick, putting to bed, disciplining when necessary, light housekeeping (laundry, tidying bedrooms, living room, kitchen, play/eating areas), organizing/sorting toys and clothes, grocery shopping, running errands, maintaining a daily schedule and keeping a daily journal for infants/toddlers. Although I love all ages, I say I specialize in infant/toddler care, only because I feel that those ages require more technical knowledge and experience. I'd love to help in any way I can, as I have extensive, hands-on knowledge about everything infant/toddler-related (I've used pretty much every brand of bottles, pacifiers, diapers, baby food, formula, slings, bath products, etc., and know everything there is to know about infant feedings, sleep coaching, learning curves and developmental stages, soothing methods, care of different ailments, emergency care, etc.) Some specific activities that I believe are important for infants and toddlers are physical play, reading books, music time (songs and sing-alongs), outdoor activities (walks and water play), interactive and imaginative play, and repetition and discovery games. I am also familiar with the "Your Baby Can Read" developmental program, and have experience using infant/toddler sign language and making homemade baby food. I have experience tutoring, have volunteered at a preschool, and have taken CPR classes as early as high school (I attended Punahou, a K-12 private school in Hawaii) and am a well-trained swimmer (I can provide supervision for swimming and water play and can teach basic swimming or early-age water familiarization.) I also participated in numerous sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball and track) and took dance, voice and piano (starting some as early as age 5), so I can incorporate those into my services as well. Please feel free to take a look at my profile, read my reviews, and give me a call if you'd like to speak further. I always supply parents with at least 3-5 references (from families with situations/ages of children similar to theirs), my childcare experience, personal information, etc. I also give parents extra information if requested... everything from a list of fun outings in my area (parks, playgrounds, libraries, museums, pools/water playgrounds, pet stores, kids activity centers), to general infant/toddler developmental stages, medical information, etc. *CHILDCARE AT MY HOME: (REFERENCES AVAILABLE FROM 8 FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN I'VE CARED FOR AT MY HOME) I live at a secure and safe community in Downtown Los Angeles called The Orsini. It consists of 3 phases over 3 blocks with bridges connecting each phase. For amenities, it has 3 heated pools with cabanas (including a junior olympic-size pool and rooftop pool), jacuzzis, a private resident park with running track, beautiful gardens and fountains with stroller paths, an indoor regulation basketball court, a beach volleyball court, a bowling alley, a putting green, a theater room and a karaoke room. I have a Bright Starts Tropical Fun Activity Station, Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Deluxe Gym Play Mat, EvenFlo SmartSteps Exersaucer Entertainer, Playskool Busy Ball-Tivity Center, Fisher-Price Superstar Sing-Along Stage, Munchkin Duck Bathtub (bath necessities, toys and towels), Cosco Umbrella Stroller, First Years Jet Stroller, Century Pack 'N Play, Fisher-Price Healthy Care Booster Seat/High Chair, Sharper Image Noise Soother, Summer Video Baby Monitor, Baby Proofing, Comforters, Quilts and Little Giraffe Baby Blankets, Art Supplies, toys, books, etc. I also have extra diapers, swimmer diapers, wipes, formula, baby food, bibs, toddler utensils, snack containers, sun hats, infant/toddler medicine, etc., as well as 3 car seats (an infant/toddler rear-facing seat, a toddler front-facing seat and a young child full booster.) There is an abundance of child-friendly activities close by, such as Pershing Square, Grand Park, Vista Hermosa Park, LACMA, MOCA, The Natural History Museum, California Science Center, L.A. Live, Singer Park, Memorial Park, Brookside Park, Garfield Park, Kidspace Children's Museum, Baby Polka Dot, Amy’s Playground, Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena Humane Society, Color Me Mine, Paintbox Kids, Pet stores, MyGym and Gymboree Classes, Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden, Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park (Playground, Train/Pony Rides and Carousel), Arroyo Seco Mini Golf, Jump ‘N Jammin, Alhambra Park Summer Water Playground, etc.

Maile is the best caretaker and babysitter I could ever hope to find. She is caring, gentle, and extremely conscientious, and has a wonderful, calm and upbeat manner with our 18-month old daughter, Vivian. Apart from me and my husband, I can't think of anyone I would trust more to take care of our daughter. Maile always arrives early to babysitting jobs, with fun ideas about things she and Vivian can do. When I come home Vivian is always happy and the house neat and organized. I feel extremely lucky to have found Maile. She is more than a great babysitter - she is truly special!

I cannot say enough good things about Maile. I was looking for an occasional sitter/nanny for my 10 1/2 month old son, and he had never spent more than three hours away from me, so i was very anxious and particular about whom I would trust with him. When Maile came over to meet him, she brought over a detailed resume and bio along with references so that i would be comfortable with her experience level. She also spent time talking with both my husband and me, as well as took her time getting to know my son. I felt that first meeting her primary concern was to make a connection with him, patiently and gently. I dropped him off at her home for his first full day with her, and her house was set-up well for in-home care. There is a big spacious room devoted solely for children to play, with plenty of toys to amuse babies of different ages, with a safety gate at the stairwell. There is a quiet comfortable place for him to nap, and she has a video monitor and noise soothers for naptime. She also has strollers and car seats (rear-facing and forward-facing). But most of all, my son was happy all day with her, and in great spirits when I picked him up. Maile gave me a full detailed report of his naps and his meals for the day. And during the day, she texted me photos of him playing and laughing. My husband and I, and definitely my son, are very fortunate to have found Maile. She has not only great knowledge and experience, but a patient, gentle way. I feel as if she cares for my son with as much care and concern that I do.

Maile is our babysitter/back-up nanny, and she is just wonderful. We always feel like our baby is in such good hands, and Maile is so easy to deal with (punctual, responds to emails, etc.). She also has a really nice, positive energy, which we really appreciate!!

My daughter was visiting from out of town and Maile spent the day with my 9 month old granddaughter. She is a caring and capable sitter, well-versed in the world of infants. I was impressed with her overall knowledge and the fact that she provided a packet of info on her experience. Maile arrived on time equipped with toys she thought my granddaughter would enjoy (which she did). She followed my daughter's instructions to the letter. She was so sweet and gentle - my granddaughter simply loved her. We will definitely call Maile again.

I am very lucky to have found Maile and I give her my strongest recommendation. I live in the Northeast, and recently visited the Pasadena area for a 1-week conference, traveling with my 3 months old baby boy and my 11 year old daughter. Maile's profile on Sittercity immediately caught my attention, I was very relieved when she gave availability to care for my children that week. I was a bit nervous planning for childcare remotely, especially since the baby is so little and I had never left him alone with a babysitter before, but Maile understands the importance of reassuring parents, and in the weeks leading to the trip we spoke over the phone and corresponded several times. She had helpful suggestions for what to bring and planned various activities to do with both children. She also offered to procure baby gear for us to borrow (stroller, car seat, activity centers), which significantly eased our travel. We were staying in a hotel, and we did not have many things, but she was waiting there for us when we arrived, helped us settle in, and brought a welcome present, food, toys for the baby, games for my daughter and various other items. The baby was sick the first two days, with a cold and a fever, but she did not loose her cool. She procured medical contact information and monitored him carefully; she was cheerful and loving, and she got him to smile soon again. Maile obviously loves babies, it was a sad goodbye when we left. She also was amazing with my pre-teen daughter: they played board games, worked on puzzles, talked about books and life and she got her to swim in the hotel pool and made her fun lunches and brought treats, which was so nice since we were away from home. When my daughter made a couple of friends her age at the hotel, she happily watched all of them, always cheerful and reassuring. I was worried my daughter would be bored during this trip, but instead she ended up having a great time. Maile is also very neat and kept our room so well organized, which helped us feeling home away from home. Traveling alone on business with two children can be overwhelming, but Maile has made the experience so much more pleasant! I am only sorry she lives so far away from us and we cannot have her with us regularly - we will miss her.

I'm so glad that I contacted Maile to babysit my 6 month old son. Maile is my very first babysitter and it is such a pleasure to have her look after my son. From the first time she interacted with my son, I can tell that she really adores babies; she has many ways to entertain my son, really experienced with babies, and she always tidy up the toys when my son is napping. My son always have a big smile on his face everytime he meets Maile. She's excellent in many ways, great personality, punctual or even arrive earlier, and very knowledgeable about babies. I highly recommended her as she's someone you can trust leaving your baby with.

We miss Maile! Maile nannied for us 5 days a week for 8 months from the time my daughter was 7 months old. From day one Maile contributed a great deal to my family and we all love her. Maile gave 110% every day she was with us. She gave my daughter her complete attention and made sure her every need was met. While the baby was napping Maile would make the house wonderfully tidy and make sure everything was in place so when I came home from work I could relax. Unfortunately we live too far apart or she would still be with us today. Maile still comes to family parties for my now two year old. Maile is a very special lady and a huge asset to any family lucky enough to hire her!
